Excursions in the area
Discover hidden spots that most tourists often overlook.
Sardinia offers more than just beaches. Explore healing springs, take a boat trip, or discover the wild cliffs of the western coast.

💡 70 minutes by car
Alghero Ramparts
A city known as "Little Barcelona" will charm you with its Catalan soul and majestic walls rising directly above the sea waves. A walk along the bastions (fortress ramparts) of Marco Polo or Pigafetta offers one of the most beautiful experiences on the island. The historic center within the walls is a maze of narrow streets where you can admire artisan workshops with red coral and breathe in the salty scent of fresh seafood.
Romantic tip:
Plan your visit so you’re on the ramparts about an hour before sunset. The entire city is bathed in golden light, and you can enjoy a typical Sardinian Aperitivo at one of the bars right on the bastions. We recommend parking at the large public parking lot Piazzale della Pace by the harbor—it’s only a 5-minute walk from there to the historic center along the sea.
ATMOSPHERE:
Romantic sunset.

💡 10 minutes by car
Elephant Rock (Roccia dell’Elefante)
One of Sardinia’s symbols and a fascinating natural wonder. This massive rock formation, shaped by wind and erosion into the perfect likeness of an elephant with its trunk, has guarded the path inland for millennia. The rock is not just a visual attraction; it is also an important archaeological site, where you can find ancient tombs called 'Domus de Janas' (fairy houses in translation), over 4,000 years old.
Historical Tip:
HISTORY:
A unique combination of a natural sculpture and a Neolithic monument.

⭐ 15 minutes by car
Castelsardo
A town that regularly ranks among the most beautiful small towns in Italy will captivate you with its dramatic location on a steep cliff. Colorful houses literally climb up to the medieval castle of the Doria family, which has guarded the Asinara Gulf for centuries. A walk through the labyrinth of narrow streets, where local women still weave traditional baskets right on their doorsteps, is like a journey back in time to authentic Sardinia.
Romantic evening:
Be sure to visit the cathedral of Sant’Antonio Abate, whose bell tower with a colorful majolica dome is an iconic symbol of the city. However, the most beautiful experience awaits you at sunset—when the walls turn golden and the view of the sea with Corsica on the horizon is unmatched. If you're looking for peace, park at the harbor (Porto Turistico) and walk up, or use the paid parking lot directly beneath the walls at Molo Vecchio.
FUN FACT:
The Old Town as a landmark.

⭐ 80 minutes by car
Parco Naturale di Porto Conte (+Neptune's Grotto)
One of the most amazing natural spectacles Sardinia has to offer. The majestic white cliffs of Capo Caccia plunge vertically into the emerald sea, hiding the world-famous Neptune’s Grotto. This underground world of stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal-clear saltwater lakes is millions of years old, and visiting it is a highlight of any trip to the island’s north. The entire Porto Conte area is also a protected park with breathtaking scenery.
Trip suggestion:
The cave is accessed via the legendary staircase "Escalera del Cabirol" with 654 steps carved directly into the sheer cliff face. The views are breathtaking but require good fitness and sturdy footwear. If you prefer comfort, you can arrive by boat from the port in Alghero. Note: Entry to the cave must be reserved online in advance. In case of strong winds and large waves, the cave is often closed for safety reasons (including access via the staircase), so always check the current status on the official website before your trip.
COUNTRY:
Dramatic cliffs and a magical underground world.

⭐ 40 minutes by car
Tempio Pausania
Trade the hot coast for fresh mountain air. The historic center of Tempio is entirely built from gray granite blocks, giving it a peaceful, almost aristocratic atmosphere. The town is known as the world capital of cork—in the local stone streets, you’ll find shops where this natural material is crafted into bags, shoes, and clothing.
Family outing:
The perfect trip if you want to take a break from the strong sun (temperatures here are usually 5 °C cooler). Along the way, stop at Nuraghe Majori – it’s an amazingly well-preserved prehistoric stone tower in the shade of a deep forest, and exploring it will entertain the kids too. Grab a coffee on the main promenade, Corso Matteotti.
ATMOSPHERE:
Stone architecture and a pleasant mountain climate.

💡 35 minutes by car
Parco Santa Degna Comune di Aggius
Step into a world where time moves slower. Aggius is a stone village nestled at the foot of majestic granite ridges, still preserving its authentic character. Park Santa Degna on its outskirts is a green oasis with a small lake, flowing springs, and benches in the shade of trees—an ideal place to escape the summer heat and enjoy a quiet walk away from tourist resorts.
Family outing:
About 5 km before the village, don’t miss the viewpoint at Valle della Luna (Moon Valley). The sight of huge boulders scattered across the landscape feels like another planet. In the park itself, you can fill up on fresh mountain water straight from the spring—it’s cold and delicious. If you’re traveling with kids, this spot is perfect for an easygoing picnic in the shade.
ATMOSPHERE:
Shade under the tree canopies in the heart of wild Gallura.

⛵ 75 minutes by car (Palau port)
Arcipelago di La Maddalena (European Caribbean)
Get ready to encounter the most beautiful shades of blue in the entire Mediterranean. A national park made up of dozens of islands and islets will amaze you with its white sand, granite rocks, and water so clear that you’ll see the shadows of boats sharply on the seabed. It’s a place where wild nature meets the luxury of uninhabited coves, rightfully earning the nickname 'the European Caribbean.'
Trip suggestion:
The archipelago is best enjoyed from the deck of a boat. We recommend booking a full-day excursion from the port of Palau. If you're looking for something more personal, opt for smaller motorboats (for 10–12 people) instead of large tour boats—they can access the shallow lagoons of Porto della Madonna, where large boats are not allowed. Don’t forget to bring a mask and snorkel; the underwater visibility here is unparalleled.
EXPERIENCE:
A full-day cruise in a paradise of turquoise bays.

⭐ 10 minutes by car
Casteldoria Thermal Baths
Discover a place where the island's volcanic force still pulses beneath the surface. Hot mineralized water, reaching up to 70°C (158°F), flows directly into the bed of the Coghinas River, right beneath the majestic medieval tower of Doria Castle. It’s a unique natural spa where you can bask in the hot springs while, just a few meters away, a cooler river flows by to refresh you.
Wellness tip:
The best experience is a wild bath directly in the river under the bridge. Just find a spot where the hot spring water mixes with the river current—you can regulate the temperature yourself by where you sit. We recommend wearing older swimsuits (due to the minerals) and, after bathing, running up to the castle tower above the river. The view of the entire Coghinas Valley at sunset is fantastic from there.
RELAX:
Free wellness „just around the corner“.
